About Smallmouth Bass

About Smallmouth Bass

Smallmouth: Micropterus dolomieu (Small Mouth Bass) are pound for pound the hardest fighting fish in the Northwoods and without doubt the most abundant. If you are looking for fish that will regularly crush flies on the surface, and put a deep bend in your 8wt and dance on the water, then look no further. Wink and his flies have been catching and landing trophy bronze backs for longer than he would care to admit. If you are looking for hard fighting, non stop action, then give Wink a call!

Wisconsin Smallmouth Bass Season

Wisconsin Smallmouth Bass Season

May 5th sparks the beginning of our Smallmouth Bass season. During Spring there are plenty of opportunities to sight cast to large pre/post spawn fish in many of clear lakes and rivers. These fish are aggressive and strong, many times they will hit the fly multiple times giving the angler a great chance to land huge bass!

During the months of July, August and early September smallmouth action will be as good as it gets! Warm water temps and dense vegetation make for smallmouth paradise. For even the most die hard musky angler will put down the 10wt and pick up a 8wt. Fish can be found everywhere and are out and looking to crush flies on the surface. Fish until your arm cant handle it, or until you catch that coveted 20-incher!

September brings the cooler shorter days and the smallmouth will start their annual migration towards deeper water making them hard to target, but who care its prime musky time!
